Over time, this group of volunteers acknowledged that hunger is not a problem that is confined to the downtown urban area.  There are many in our own suburban community who are experiencing financial difficulties and don't have adequate food for their families.

From this concern, our Helping Hands program has now expanded to include a free meal in our facility on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

Matthew 25:35

I was hungry and you gave me food.  I was thirsty and you gave me drink.

I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

The Helping Hands ministry at Charlton Church started as a support to the Helping Hands outreach ministry in downtown Harrisburg to the homeless and other needy persons.

It all started when a Charlton member was once asked to fill in for a friend who cooked for the program. Through that experience, a group of Charlton volunteers have made the commitment to provide a meal on the third Friday of each month.  The meal is first prepared in the Charlton kitchen; then the volunteers transport the food downtown and serve those who rely on the program for a hot meal.
